Most Secrete Yet a Taboo

Our conservative modern but yet a traditional society do not permit us to discuss the very concept of sex and ironically discussing about one’s own sexuality and sexual orientation is often tagged as the subject of vulgarity and shamefulness. The society today claims to be modernized and technologically advanced yet majority of the women around the world are too shy to even utter the word “Vagina”.

Sexual intercourse is the very first though that comes to a person’s mind when asked them to define sex. This lacuna is due to the fact that sex education, especially in Indian is not yet encourage due to the fact that it is a big taboo. Don’t you think we all are actually shying away with our own sexuality education? The only information we all learn in our textbook were reproduction, which would often get skipped by a teacher due to embarrassment.

Most of the growing teenagers around the world get to learn about sexuality education either from their peers or from books, magazines, films and increasingly from various sources in available in the internet. Have you ever wondered as how confusing as well as manipulative information they would receive regarding their own sexual identity. Aren’t the parents, teachers or elders responsible for delivering the child with the sex education?

Children by the age of six are able to recognize the social stigmas and taboos surrounding sexuality. This is the very time when it is necessary for parents to answer each of their curiosity reality sex, sexuality and gender in the most appropriate manner. However, majority of the parents around the world get nervous to the subject and are less open to their question conforming them that asking anything related to sex is inappropriate or unethical. Can you even realise as how whimsical feeling or believes they would build up regarding their own sexual identity. As they grow up, the prettification of this concept often compels them to suppress their needs and desires surrounding their own sexuality. So, next time when you hear or see someone’s sexual aggression, just ask yourself a question… haven’t the taboos surrounding sex within this so-called modernised society has instigated it?
